Just fitted my 2 new Sata cards and booted her up only to receive a Kernal panic.

I had noticed that there was a ticking sound coming from the unit when I reconnected it to the power supply this afternoon. Could it just be a busted HD?

Anyone Know if Blue-Ray discs are archival? The normal DVD have a high failure rate after a few year in storage. Even CD-R media will not last decades.
Actually this has been proved wrong. As long as your careful, keep them in a good tempered area they'll be fine. I still have some of my original CDs and DVDs that I burned that work fine - of course it doesn't hurt to backup those discs though. Scratching them is easy. ;)

I just did an update to iTunes and now when I try and launch the application I am getting a message: The folder "iTunes" can not be found or created and required. The default location for the folder is inside the "Music" folder. I can select "choose library" but it will not allow me to select iTunes.

Any ideas what I can do?

For a while I was thinking that the only dent Apple could make was primarily in the individual consumer market. But this news along with checking out some of the new upcoming features for Leopard server makes me change my mind. 2007 and all it will bring to the Mac platform will be an interesting year for sure.

Agreed, .mac had a solid, sensible, identifiable connotation. I wasn't a mac guy at the time, but it whenever I'd see it, conveyed that Apple was providing a decent service package for it's users. "me" just seemed needlessly self-absorbed, and conveys nothing useful. "Castle" sounds like somebody in marketing trying hard to be clever.

I wish they'd simplify, combine & condense all these services, give all their iTunes and new hardware customers an account, and give at least one or two services away free to get people using it in some capacity. ...find my iPhone/iPad, or contact/cal/limited storage push syncing... But just go back to calling the whole package ".mac" again. Clean, short, clear, promotes the brand without being obnoxious.

It'll never be '.mac' again. Apple's ecosystem has changed too much since then, and it's not all about the Mac anymore. But I agree they need a free service which at very least includes syncing between devices, and a small amount of online storage.
