first time posting in this thread. photo of my son at half moon bay during our recent visit back home to norcal. it was a little chilly but definitely warmer then here in WA. none the less, great thread with some really nice shots. i look forward to posting here more often. :)

Sigh, I'm getting the distinct impression that iCal is going to add a bunch of new features and not fix many of the usability problems it already has now. For instance, there is no way to shift several events in time simultaneously, you have to change each one individually. Another is that when you select several events from different calendars and copy and paste them they all turn into the same calendar category.
There are many more problems like these, but I've seen no mention in the preview reports that iCal has done anything to refine the existing features, only that new features are being added. If anyone with a preview can inform me of the contrary I'd be quite happy to hear it.

Spring-loaded folders in the dock. So you can drag a file onto a folder in the dock and have it spring open - like in the Finder.
Oh. I thought it would be how fast the dock unhides when you hover over it.

Well Apple has used up all the "big cat" names like Tiger and Lion which means that either OS 11 is underway or they will be in the embarassing situation of having to use lesser cat names which imply "less".

if by "internal" you mean "inside the box," that seems unlikely. The main benefit of fiber optics is over distances greater than those inside a PC. Signals on PCB's travel at something like 25% of the speed of light (depending on dielectric), which may seem slow, but is very speedy compared to the long cables used to connect PCs to external peripherals.
Ah, gotcha. Guess I misread/misunderstood the info. So it's truly meant for peripheral devices and will not replace internal components. For some reason I thought it was a universal (internal/external) system. Oh well.

It didn't take my 10 year old son long to figure out that he could continue to download apps after asking me to download one for him. Now, if he wants a free app, I wait for it to finish downloading and then i log out of my account before i hand his touch back to him! :mad:

OMG....I would NEVER take information as fact from an "ATT customer service agent". I have received so much wrong info or even been dare I say lied to, I would never trust what a random ATT rep said.
Not to mention, the service reps are so far down the chain of command, they would not have info on when the next iphone is being released.
Exactly. An AT&T rep could tell me the sun is shining and I would have to verify for myself. They are masters of:
A. Not knowing what the ****** they're talking about.
B. Making something up to get you off the phone.
One of the many reasons I will never again give AT&T a dime of my money.

Which has unfortunately just been delayed until a couple of weeks after my 31st. :mad: Other than that, I'm getting myself a 27" Cinema Display. What I would like is a really nice knife block and set of decent chef's knives.

Kids are only as responsible as their parents. Would you give your kid $1000 cash to walk around the mall with and blame the store if they sold the kid a pack of gum using your cash? Of course not. It's not the kid's fault, 100% irresponsible parents. They gave their kids a form of payment (yeah, an iphone is an electronic payment method just like a credit card), and but not for that action the charge wouldn't have taken place. I don't want to have to press BUY 5 times and enter my password 5 times because Shaniqwa can't supervise her 8 kids who she gives an iPod with a billing account tied to her name to. SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN, IT'S NOT THE GOVERNMENT NOR APPLE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE THEIR PARENT, IT'S YOURS.

I'm not sure if it's just a bunch of "computer guys" around here, but in the gaming world Xbox 360 has a fair amount of cultural cachet.
IIRC, PS2 is still outselling the Xbox360. And when we compare install-base, Sony's lead over MS is HUGE. And since PS2 is still outselling their competitor, that lead is increasing.

I buy very, very few $1.29 songs, but I've bought much less music from itunes since that price went into effect.
I really hope this does push Apple into cutting their prices back down to .99 and cheaper. I do not know anything about digital rights etc., but I do know that the higher price tier made me retreat from iTunes pretty quick.

Trackpads and touch screens are quite different input devices. Touch screen input requires that you actually "touch" what you want to manipulate. With a trackpad, you don't have quite the precision to precisely put your finger on an object on screen, since the object is not displayed on the track pad.
It just doesn't translate that well. Trackpads still very much require cursors, which iOS's UI lacks.
Then all you need is a cursor overlay; just how you operate in an iOS simulator.
